    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Fort Nelson Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors met with senior executives from Chevron Canada Limited (Chevron) and Woodside Energy International Canada Limited (Woodside) on November 16, 2017 to discuss their commitments to the local Fort Nelson business community as co-venturers in the Liard / Horn River Resources upstream component of the proposed Kitimat LNG Project.

Joining Chamber of Commerce officials at the meeting were Fred Eastwood, Manager, Kitimat LNG Project - Chevron, Sarah Carter, Canada Development Manager - Woodside, Michael Morand, Manager, Liard Horn River Resources - Chevron, Rod Maier, Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs - Chevron, Natalie Poole-Moffatt, Head of Corporate Affairs, Canada – Woodside, David Molinski, Team Lead, Policy and External Relations – Chevron and Randall Sweet, Sr. External Relations Advisor – Chevron.

Mr. Eastwood explained that Chevron and Woodside remain committed to the Kitimat LNG project and are focused on delivering a globally competitive project that is ready at the right time and aligned with LNG market demand. The Liard appraisal program now underway has confirmed a prolific natural gas resource and further analysis of the results of the program is ongoing.

As Liard / Horn River Resources operator, the Chevron representatives briefed Fort Nelson Chamber of Commerce officials on their plans in the Fort Nelson area. They reported that the Liard Appraisal program currently underway has one active drilling rig deployed with plans to finish drilling activity and to bring a third, “proof of development concept” well into production in early 2017. Following demobilization of that rig, there are no current plans for further drilling activity next year.  Two appraisal program well sites completed earlier this year are now in production and will continue to operate.

While project-related activity levels for 2017 will be lower than this year given current economic conditions, the Chamber of Commerce appreciates our partnership with Chevron and Woodside and being kept apprised of the plans for Liard / Horn River Resources as they develop. We continue to work with Chevron on local content and procurement opportunities and to ensure that as many local services as possible are contracted during this demobilization process and in the future. The Chamber stressed the importance of Chevron keeping the community up to date and ensuring that local businesses have adequate notice to prepare for future opportunities.

The Chevron and Woodside representatives acknowledged the need for qualified suppliers of goods and services in the Fort Nelson area to be able to plan ahead and reaffirmed their commitment on behalf of the Kitimat LNG Project, to keeping the community informed on their progress and work plans for the region.
Chevron and Woodside representatives also attended the Fort Nelson Chamber’s luncheon on November 15 to present Chamber member Energetic Services with a Safety Award on behalf of the Kitimat LNG Project for their outstanding safety performance. The Chamber congratulates Energetic Services on receiving this very special award as a proud example of the quality of our local businesses.

The Fort Nelson Chamber of Commerce would like to thank Chevron and Woodside for their ongoing commitment and looks forward to hosting future engagements with our members in 2017.
