    NEWS RELEASE
For Business Sake – Say No to the Proposed Tax Reforms
    _____________________________________________________________________________________

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Fort Nelson, BC, September 13th, 2017 – Advocacy efforts are ramping up around the province and around the country as Chambers of Commerce, Boards of Trade and industry associations work to gather their members’ feedback on what is said to be the most radical tax overhaul  in over 50 years. The Federal Government’s proposed tax changes could see major changes for businesses across the country.

We have until October 2, 2017 to provide public feedback to the Government of Canada on how these changes will impact local business.  The government of Canada has indicated they are determined to go through with these reforms.  We must have a loud message from business owners across the country telling the government business cannot take on more tax burden.

The government says it is meant to capture the “high income individuals” but the rules would apply to all incorporated businesses in Canada most of which are small and medium sized enterprises (restaurants, service companies, retailers).

We don’t support tax evasion or loopholes but this tax reform will punish legitimate business and honest,  hard-working Canadians.

We urge everyone to contact our Member of Parliament and the Minister of Finance to let them know you do not support this tax reform.  Sample letters can be accessed at www.fortnelsonchamber.com or through our office.

The Fort Nelson & District Chamber of Commerce represents over 200 businesses within the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality and is a strong advocate of local business and community.
