WELCOME WHAT IS A CHAMBER OF COMMERCE? Your Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit organization comprised of businesses, professionals, residents and other community groups working together to ensure a healthy economic and socio-economic base to benefit the entire community. Your Chamber of Commerce harnesses the tremendous potential of the private enterprise system and the community at large as a unified “Voice of Business” enabling its Membership to accomplish collectively what no one person can do individually.
HOW DOES YOUR CHAMBER WORK? The policies and programs of the Chamber are determined by its volunteer Board of Directors, elected by the Membership. They, in turn, employ a General Manager and other staff whose basic responsibility is to organize and execute the Chamber’s programs and carry out its policies.
WHAT DOES YOUR CHAMBER DO? Your Chamber represents and promotes The Fort Nelson & District's economy. The Chamber is in touch with municipal, provincial and federal issues with committees affecting crime prevention programs, governmental concerns, transportation issues, and tourism with the prime objective of encouraging business. The Fort Nelson & District Chamber of Commerce serves as a Visitor Information Centre year round and operates the seasonal Visitor Information Centre in the summer season. The Chamber also serves as the Business Resource Centre for the Northern Rockies providing small business start-up information and a library of reference material of interest to small business. The Chamber is the salesman for the community and its businesses - tirelessly promoting their products and services - and at the same time is their watchdog, protecting their interests. The Chamber is a catalyst - the vehicle through which all segments of business work together for the common good of the total community. A better community means better business! The unified voice of the Fort Nelson & District Chamber of Commerce has often proven effective and beneficial to businesses and residents of our community where a single voice can go unheard.
