Dear Client:

As you are aware, the province of British Columbia has announced its intention to harmonize the provincial sales tax with the federal goods and services tax (GST), effective July 1, 2010.

The Canada Revenue Agency is taking steps to ensure businesses are aware of the proposed harmonized sales tax. Businesses are encouraged to visit the CRA web site at www.cra.gc.ca/harmonization to find current information and links relating to the proposed transition to HST for British Columbia.

In addition, CRA is offering free information seminars throughout the province. The dates, times, and locations, as well as registration information are available on our web site at www.cra.gc.ca/harmonization. The seminars are called ‘Transition to Harmonized Sales Tax - Information for Businesses’. Currently, seminars are being planned across the province. Please visit this website for the times, locations and for registration for these areas.

Please note, you must register to attend as seating is limited.

If you require further information about the above seminars, please contact us by email at: BCHSTOutreach@cra-arc.gc.ca (including in your E-mail your telephone number for reply) or leave a message on our voice mail at 1-888-691-4501.

For all other business enquiries about the proposed transition to HST for British Columbia or taxes administered by the CRA, please telephone our Business Enquiries line at 1-800-959-5525.
